The Impact of Severe Weather on Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama

Severe weather can have a significant impact on Middle Tennessee and Northern Alabama. Heavy rains can cause flooding, strong winds can damage homes and property, and tornadoes can cause death and destruction.

While severe weather can happen at any time of year, it is most common in the spring and summer months. That’s why it’s important to be prepared and know what to do if severe weather strikes.

Here are some tips to help you stay safe during severe weather:

-Listen to local news or a NOAA Weather Radio to stay informed about severe weather warnings.

-Have a plan in place in case you need to evacuate your home.

-If you are outdoors, go to a low-lying area, such as a ditch, and stay away from trees, power lines, and other potential hazards.

-If you are in a car, do not try to outrun a tornado. Instead, pull over to the side of the road and put your seat belt on. Cover your head with your hands or a blanket to protect yourself from flying debris.

-In a thunderstorm, lightning can strike 10 miles away from the center of the storm. If you hear thunder, that means lightning is close enough to pose a threat. Take shelter indoors immediately.

-Make sure your home is insured against severe weather damage.

By following these tips, you can help protect yourself and your property from the impact of severe weather.
