Tennessee’s Disaster Response Timeline: What to Expect after a Major Event

FacebookFacebookTwitterTwitterEmailEmailShareShare

When a major disaster or emergency happens, it can be hard to know what to expect next. Here is a timeline of what usually happens in the disaster response process in Tennessee.

First, the governor will declare a state of emergency. This allows state agencies to start mobilizing resources. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) will start coordinating the state’s response.

Next, TEMA will request assistance from the federal government, if needed. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will then deploy teams to the affected area to assess the damage and needs.

Once the needs are assessed, FEMA will start providing resources and assistance. This can include things like temporary housing, food, and water. They will also provide financial assistance for things like repairs and rebuilding.

The state and federal government will continue to provide resources and assistance until the area is recovered. This process can take months or even years.
