Restoring Your Home After a Tornado

After a tornado, it’s important to survey the damage to your home and property. If you have any doubts about your safety, evacuate immediately and call for professional help. Here are some tips for restoring your home after a tornado:

• First, check for gas leaks, electrical damage, and structural damage. If you smell gas, leave the premises immediately and call the gas company. If you see sparks or broken or frayed wires, turn off the electricity at the main breaker.

• Next, assess the damage to your home’s exterior. If your roof is damaged, cover it with a tarp to prevent further damage from the elements.

• Once you’ve taken care of the immediate dangers, you can start cleaning up. If possible, do this right away to prevent further damage from mold and mildew.

• Start by removing debris from your yard. This will help prevent further damage to your home and make cleanup easier.

• If your home is damaged, you’ll need to contact your insurance company. They will send an adjuster to assess the damage and begin the claims process.

• Finally, begin repairing and rebuilding your home. This process can be daunting, but there are many resources available to help you.
