How to Prepare Your Home for Flood Season

As we enter the flood season, it’s important to take some time to prepare your home to minimize damage in the event of a flood. Here are some tips to get you started:

1. Know your flood risk. Check with your local authorities to see if your home is in a floodplain. If so, you’ll want to take extra precautions.

2. Inspect your home’s exterior. Make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and in good repair. Check your foundation for cracks or gaps that could let water in.

3. Make a plan. If you live in a flood-prone area, have a plan for what you’ll do if a flood warning is issued. Know where you’ll go and what you’ll need to take with you.

4. Protect your valuables. Move important items to higher floors or to a storage facility outside of the floodplain.

5. Stay informed. During flood season, keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to act quickly if a flood is heading your way.

By following these tips, you can help reduce the risk of damage to your home during the flood season.
